交流内容简介：The value of information technology (IT) has long been, and remains, a central concern of information systems (IS) research. However, much of this research has relied on theories whose underlying value assumptions are rarely made explicit. Value is often interpreted narrowly, primarily in economic or efficiency terms. This limitation constrains the IS research in the digital era, where alternative conceptions of value around IT are increasingly relevant in various situations. Drawing on axiology and value systems theory, this paper reconceptualises value(s) in IS research and proposes a framework of values for judging the value of IT use. We propose a pluralistic framework for ‘values in digital phenomena’, with three key elements: value of what, value to whom, and value in which way. To examine and demonstrate its usefulness, we apply the framework to analyse, and critique IS research on a sample digital phenomenon. The framework and analysis sensitise IS scholars to the pluralistic nature of values and axiological assumptions inherent in theories, thereby advancing IS research in the digital era.
