交流内容简介：How do firms adapt their innovation strategies amid geopolitical shocks? This study examines how Chinese technology firms adjust their innovative knowledge sources in response to U.S. government sanctions. We argue that firms targeted by geopolitical sanctions strategically reduce their dependence on knowledge from the sanctioning country and actively seek alternative sources to sustain innovation. Although sanctioned firms continue to pursue patent innovations, the quality of their outputs declines. However, this negative impact can be mitigated through strategic shifts in knowledge sourcing. Using a staggered difference-in-differences (DID) approach, we test these ideas with a panel dataset of technology-intensive Chinese firms from 2013 to 2023, during which some were added to U.S. government sanction lists. Results show that, relative to the control group, sanctioned firms significantly reduced their reliance on U.S.-produced knowledge while increasing sourcing from Chinese and European firms. Innovation quantity remained relatively stable post-sanction, but innovation quality declined. These effects are heterogeneous: firms with limited adjustments in knowledge sourcing experienced sharper quality declines, while those with stronger adaptive capacity showed greater resilience. Our study contributes to organizational resilience theory under geopolitical risk by demonstrating how firms respond to institutional disruptions through the strategic reconfiguration of knowledge sources.

分享人简介：贺佳，对外经济贸易大学企业管理专业博士生，美国马里兰大学联合培养博士生。师从王分棉教授、Waverly Ding教授。主要研究方向为绿色环保、数字化转型、创新与创业。研究成果发表于《中国工业经济》《中国人口·资源与环境》《中国软科学》和《外国经济与管理》等学术期刊。此外，尚有论文在《Organization Science》 Major Revision、《Research Policy》R&R、《南开管理评论》二审、《管理世界》外审阶段。另有两篇工作论文待投稿。博士期间，主持了2项校级项目，作为核心成员参与了2项国社科、1项教育部、2项北京市项目，并参与编写了多部教材与专著，相关成果获商务部、浙江省哲学社会科学优秀成果奖等多项荣誉。
