交流内容简介：Using the establishment of bankruptcy courts, this paper examines how enhanced debt enforcement affects banks’ loan loss provisions (Hereafter LLPs). We find that banks significantly increase LLPs following the bankruptcy courts inception in their respective cities. Our paper identifies that the positive effect is likely to be driven by the fact that zombie firms are more likely to be liquidated after the establishment of bankruptcy courts. Cross-sectional tests show that the positive effect is more pronounced among prudent banks, banks with higher internal governance quality, and with stronger external monitoring. Additional analysis indicates that enhanced debt enforcement amplifies discretionary LLPs. Overall, our paper provides more granular, micro-level empirical evidence regarding the effects of creditor protection on LLPs within a specific country context.

分享人简介：钟宇翔，博士，华中科技大学管理学院会计系讲师，硕士生导师。本科毕业于武汉大学经济与管理学院，博士毕业于西安交通大学管理学院，攻读博士期间在香港理工大学进行联合培养。主要研究方向包括制度环境与企业行为、资产定价与跨国会计研究。目前以第一作者/通讯作者在《Journal of Banking & Finance》、《Journal of Business Finance & Accounting》、《管理科学学报》等国内外期刊上发表论文十余篇。获华中科技大学人文社科研究突出贡献奖、我最喜爱的教师班主任、优秀教师班主任、教师教学竞赛奖等奖项。
