Fuzhou University is providingseveral typesof scholarships for oversea students. They are:

1.Chinese Government Scholarship

The Chinese Government Scholarships are provided by the Ministry of Education of China for applications of undergraduate and postgraduate programs. Only applications of postgraduate programs canapply forthis scholarship and it will be granted to5 applicantsannuallyat Fuzhou University. For postgraduate programs, thedurationof this scholarship is 2-3 years and 3-4 years for Ph.D programs.

2.Fujian Provincial Government Scholarships

These scholarships are provided by thedepartmentof education of Fujian province. They are applicable foroversea studentsof undergraduate and postgraduate programs. They include severaltypes ofscholarships with different coverage anddurationfor language training and degree acquisition.

3.Fuzhou University Scholarship

This scholarship is provided by FuzhouUniversity.

Enrollment Guide for CSC Scholarship(2016-2017)

Chinese Government Scholarship-University Postgraduates Program is established by the Ministry of Education of China(hereinafter referred to asMOE)aiming to offer support in building international high level universities, and promote Chinese higher education brand. According to the notification(教外司来【2016】208) of Department of International Cooperation and Exchanges of MOE, Fuzhou University is endowed withfiveenrollments of Chinese Government Scholarship -University Postgraduates Program. Oversea students are welcome to apply.

Doctor’s degree applicants will be given priority.

According to the notification, the vacancy is open to full-time postgraduates. No application for students learning language and literature except Chinese language, no share for one scholarship vacancy.

According to the relevant regulation, the applicants for Liberal Arts (including Economics and Management) should pass the HSK5, applicants for science and engineering should pass the HSK4. Qualified colleges and disciplines are encouraged to set up postgraduate programs taught in English. Students who are taught in English will not be arranged to study Chinese in principle, but he or she should obtain the credit of Chinese compulsory courses during study.

2. Application

Applicants should apply toFuzhou Universityin the given time, the deadline isMarch 20, 2016(please give clear indication “Application of Chinese Government Scholarship” on the title of email or envelop)Applicants should also log in the China Scholarship Council(http://laihua.csc.edu.cn)to apply online.Application Form for Chinese Government Scholarship must be printed out online and then sent to Fuzhou University.

Duration for scholarship and academic programs specified at the time of admission can not be extended in principle. The admission will not go beyond the year. The supervisor should specify relevant requirements during enrollment.

3. Eligibility

1) Applicants must be non-Chinese citizens, love China, in good health, and can finish the learning tasks in China.

2) Applicants should have a basic knowledge of Chinese or apply for the major taught in English.

3) Education background and age limit:

Applicants for master degree studies must have bachelor’s degree and be under the age of 35.

Applicants for Doctoral degree studies must have master’s degree and be under the age of 40.

4. Details of the Scholarship

1) Exempt from registration fee, tuition fee, fee for laboratory experiment, fee for internship. Costs of the laboratory experiment or internship that beyond the university’s arrangements should be afforded by the student himself.

2) The university provides accommodation (double room in principle) on campus.

3) Monthly living allowance is paid at the following rates (CNY Yuan per month):

- Master degree students: CNY 3,000 Yuan

- Doctoral degree students: CNY 3,500 Yuan

Students who have to suspend their studies because of pregnancy or serious diseases should go back to the home country and pay for the international trip by themselves. With the university’s approval, the scholarship status can be reserved for at most one year, and their living allowances will be suspended at the same time. The scholarship will be terminated for those who suspend their studies for other reasons.

4) Fee for outpatient medical service, Comprehensive Medical Insurance and Benefit Plan for International Students in China.

5) International travel expenses: self-afforded.

6) According to relevant requirements, the CSC has substantially raised the standard of living allowance since September 1, 2014, the former one-off settlement subsidy, tuition fee, and the fee for outpatient medical service have been merged into the living allowance instead of paying for students separately.

The applicants must fill in and provide the following materials truly and correctly.

The applicant should fill in and submit information through China Scholarship Council Application Online, after submitting, please print out the Application Form for Chinese Government Scholarship created by the system.

2).Highest diploma (notarized photocopy).If applicants are university students or already employed, they shall also provide studying certificates or employment documents. Documents in languages other than Chinese or English must be attached with notarized translations in Chinese or English.(both original file and photocopy)

3).Transcripts (notarized photocopy).Transcripts in languages other than Chinese or English must be attached with notarized translations in Chinese or English.

4).Personal statement of applicantin Chinese or in English (no less than 2000 words). The content should include: study and work experience, special achievements; the capacity for scientific research and other capacity. Applicants for Doctoral degree studies should describe the creativity of master degree thesis or work. List one or two target tutors.

5).A study or research planin Chinese or in English (no less than 2000 words), including problems that should be solved and expectation of research.

6).Application form of master/doctor degree of Fuzhou University for Oversea Students(Attachment 1), filled in Chinese or English

7).Two recommendation letters in Chinese or English(associate professor at least)

8).The photocopy of HSK certificate

9). Students apply for music/dance major should submit CD that include his or her own works; students apply for fine arts major should submit CD that include his or her own works.( two sketches, two color painting, and two other works)

10).The photocopy of Foreign Physical Examination Form. Please save the original document yourself. This form is unified by the health quarantine department of China, and can be downloaded from the CSC website: http://www.csc.edu.cn/Laihua/dl.aspx

Fill in the form in English. The applicants should strictly follow the parts requested in the form.The form with missing items, without a photograph or without a cross-page seal on the photograph, without doctors and hospitals' signature and seal will be considered as invalid.In view of the result is valid for 6 months, the applicant should choose the time for physical examination accordingly.

11).The photocopy of the first page of valid ordinary passport, the duration of study should be within the period of validity.

12).8 pieces of photo, size equals with photo used in the passport(white background, applicant’s names in the back)

Note:

The above materials should be submitted in duplicate, and bind in a volume in the upper left corner according the sequence.The application materials should be mailed to the Office of Cooperation and Exchange of Fuzhou Universityby March 20, 2016.(Check the address in the contact information, item 1) CSC will not accept personal application.Whether recruited or not, the materials of applicants will not be sent back.

6. Approval and Notification

1). Fuzhou University will review the application materials, combine with, advice of supervisor, result of health examination comprehensively and decide on the list of accepted students. The Admission Notice will be sent after the approval of department in charge.

2). Fuzhou University is supposed to send the application materials to CSC by April 31, 2016.

3). CSC will review the enrollment results and issue Visa Application Form for Study in China (JW201).

4). CSC will send the Final List of Accepted Students, Admission Notice and Visa Application Form for Study In China (JW201) to Office of Cooperation and Exchange in Fuzhou University by June 31, 2016, who will forward the documents to the students according to the address listed inApplication Form for Chinese Government Scholarshipin July

5). Scholarship students’ affairs shall be managed according to relevant regulations of Chinese Government Scholarship.Students are not allowed to change their institutions. Scholarship from Fujian Government and Fuzhou University

Fuzhou University, founded in 1958, has obtained the high reputation as “Tsinghua University in the south of China” with its No. 1 comprehensive education capability among all the Fujian-province-owned universities. The University is also cosponsored by Fujian Province and the Ministry of Education of China and has been selected into the “211 project”. The university boosts its high-level teaching and scientific research fruits and has now developed into a key teaching-and-research comprehensive university in Fujian Province. The university offers diverse fields of discipline in undergraduate programs, master’s degree programs and doctoral degree programs. There are 30,000 students in the University, including more than 9300 graduate students.

The University has established the Chinese Language and Culture Program for foreign students to learn Chinese in China. After 1 or 2 years learning, foreign students not only could have a good command of Chinese Language for HSK but also could apply for the degree courses directly in Fuzhou University and be awarded the degree and graduation certificate. At present all the majors are open to foreign students.

The Chinese Government Scholarship Students, Confucius Institute Scholarship Students, Fujian Provincial Government Scholarship Students are all accepted by Fuzhou University. Also, the University has its own scholarships for foreign students. Procedures and required documents for applying Chinese Government Scholarship and Confucius Institute Scholarship shall prevail to the government website. All scholarships can be applied, but only one can be received.

In order to simplify the procedures, Fujian Provincial Government Scholarship and Fuzhou University Scholarship adopt the same application standard, as follows:

1. Candidates for applying B.A. need high school diploma and are no more than 30 years old;

2. Candidates for applying M.A. need bachelor degree and are no more than 35 years old;

3. Candidates for applying non-degree programs need bachelor degree or are undergraduates in junior or senior years, and are no more than 50 years old;

4. Candidates for applying Ph.D need master degree and are no more than 40 years old;

5. Candidates for applying advanced visiting programs need master degree or are postgraduates and are no more than 50 years old;

6. Candidates for applying liberal arts majors need to achieve180 points in HSK (Level 5). Candidates for applying science and engineering majors need to achieve180 points in HSK (Level 4). Candidates failed in Candidates can join in the Chinese language learning course for 1-2 years in Fuzhou University, and can apply liberal arts majors or science and engineering majors when the language requirements are reached; there is no requirement for Chinese language learning students. Candidates for applying M.A and Ph.D. with Chinese Government Scholarship need not to meet the Chinese language level if the professors have agreed to teach in English, but the Chinese courses should be passed after the enrollment.

7. Study and research plan, including your idea to the research that you are interested in. (according to the requirement of Fujian Provincial Scholarship application, the plan should be no less than 400 words for language learning students, no less than 800 words for B.A. students and no less than 2,000 words for M.A. and Ph.D. students.)

8. For the master’s and doctor’s degree, personal statement (no less than 2,000 words) and recommendation letters (written by two professors or associate professors) are needed. The personal statement should include study and working experience and achievements, research capability and other abilities; creative conception of the master’s thesis (needed only if the doctor’s degree is applied); one or two supervisors in Fuzhou University you want to follow.

Fuzhou University Scholarship can be applied for annually with an amount a bit less than Fujian Provincial Government Scholarship. The scholarship not only covers part of tuition and accommodation fees but also includes the monthly living allowance of 500 yuan RMB.
